January 2, 1938 – July 15, 2022
Marlene Sonia Norris-Burt, 84, of Coatesville, PA, passed away at Chester County Hospital on Friday, July 15, 2022. Born in Coatesville, PA, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Ethel Norris. She was the wife of the late James C. Burt, Sr.
Marlene was educated in the Coatesville Area School District. She attended the Historical James Adams School and graduated in 1956 from Scott Area Senior High School. Over the years, she worked as a teacher's aide at the Coatesville Day Care Center for over 10 years. She also was a CNA for over 5 years with the Visiting Nurses Association. She was a member of St. Paul AME Church in Coatesville, PA, where she served as a Stewardess and Missionary, along with being on the Usher Board. She was a faithful and dedicated member.
She was affectionately known as "May Ruth" and "Helen" by her close family and friends and "Mimi" by the Gibbs family and "Momzie" by Trevor.
Marlene enjoyed cooking and baking. She loved watching soap operas on television, especially General Hospital and All My Children. If you knew Ms. Marlene, you knew she was a dedicated Eagles and Sixers fan. She would wear her Eagles attire on every game day.
She is survived by 3 children, daughters, Sylvia P. Cousins, and Tracy C. Burt, both of Jamaica, NY and James C. Burt, Jr. and his wife Chryel of Downingtown, PA; sister, Mercedes Brown of Levittown, PA; brothers, Paul R. Norris of Decatur, GA, Jordan Moat of Media, PA; bonus daughter, Scarlett L. Gibbs; grandchildren: Danisha Brown, Antonio Bell, Steven Burt and Romain Cousins; 3 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Marlene was preceded in death by her husband, James C. Burt, Sr., and her parents, Paul and Ethel Norris.
Homegoing Services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, July 22, 2022, at Bell Chapel True Holiness Church, 132 Modena Road, Coatesville, PA. A viewing will be held from 10:00 am until the time of service. Please note: Facial masks are required.
