Obituary

Margaret V. Woodson was the daughter of the late Leo Henchman and Lillian Jackson Gardener.

She was the oldest of five children born on June 8, 1912 in Rileyville, Page County Virginia.  She was the wife of the late John A. Woodson, Sr. with whom she shared over 50 years of marriage until his death.

Ms. Margaret was employed as a seamstress at Jenkins Laundry in Philadelphia. In the early years, she worked in Las Vegas, NV and California making uniforms for the military.

She enjoyed arts & crafts, crocheting and knitting. She also loved to cook and help the senior citizens with arts & craft projects. Ms. Margaret was a caring servant who had a big heart for people. She would always take people in. She raised many children as her own.

Ms. Margaret was a member of the Dauphin Street Baptist Church where she served on the Usher Board for many years. She was a member of the Trinity Chapter #29 Order of Eastern Star, PHA, where she served as Worthy Matron from 1994-95, as well as various organizations too numerous to mention.

Ms. Margaret served her community faithfully until she passed away at age 99. In addition to husband, she was preceded in death by one son John Woodson, Jr., one brother Clarence Gardener, and two sisters, Martha Martin and Shirley Stuart.

She leaves to cherish her memories a son  Darryl Woodson of Philadelphia; one brother, Elmer Gardener of Spartanburg, North Carolina, one granddaughter, Jacqueline Wiley of Philadelphia; 2 great grandchildren, Lestria Goss and Lynette Wiley, her faithful caregiver and niece, Arva Brown; her honorary daughter Marcee Martin Parker and many other nieces and nephews, neighbors and friends.
