IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lueveina
Blakey
June 25, 1938 – July 21, 2024
Lueveina Blakey, wife of Harry L. Blakey Sr, joyfully transitioned to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 21, 2024, in the comfort of her home in Pottstown, PA. Born on June 25, 1938, in Oxford, North Carolina, Lou was the 1st of 8 children born to the union of Catherine (Cooper) Harris and Willie Joe Harris. When the family relocated to Pennsylvania, Lou continued her Christian-walk and was baptized in Second Baptist Church on July 27, 1950.
Lou enjoyed reading, learning, and spending time with family and friends. During an outing at a baseball game with friends, Lou met the love of her life, Harry Leroy Blakey Sr. On January 17, 1959, Lou and Leroy married and began their life as one. To this lovely union, God blessed three sons and two daughters. While raising their five children, Lou also cared for her mother, and her siblings. Lou was the consummate "big sister", with a heart as big as the sky. She doted on her sister, and was sure to love on her 6 brothers, praying with them and for them. Additionally, Lou worked as an aide and a professional seamstress. She cared for people in a compassionate way, and created beautiful clothing that was admired by many. She adored her family, nurtured each grandchild in a special way, and enjoyed her work, but Lou's love for the Lord is what made those things possible.
Lou raised her children and grandchildren in the Word. She read scriptures, aided them in memorizing the books of the Bible, shared home Bible study sessions and led a Christian-walk everywhere she went. In her younger years at Second Baptist Church, Lou served as a financial steward, balancing the financial records. Lou also served as a Missionary, Women's Group Leader, Celestial Chorus member, Pastor's Prayer Guild Member, VBS leader, Senior's Ministry and Sunday School member, and Deaconess. Lou served for several years in any capacity the Lord chose. She was humble, but a strong witness for the Lord. She sowed into others, not only as a member/officer, but as a fellow sister. Lou did not pass judgment. Instead, she shared stories of what the Lord can do, becoming known as Mother Lou, and a prayer warrior for The Lord. She was a faithful servant in her Bible meeting and prayer studies until her health declined. At that time, Lou was comforted hearing God's Word in speech and in song from representatives of each ministry. Though several attributes could be listed, Lou often stated, "Only what you do for the Lord will last", "If it had not been for the Lord…" and "It is not of any title, accolade, or great thing we accomplish, but is about what God does for us and through us; we are nothing without The Lord". Lou truly loved the Lord.
Mourning but Celebrating her life are her children: Ray Blakey, Patricia Levi (Leroy), Harry Blakey Jr. (Diedre), Brian Blakey (Sonya), and Katina Blakey-Bearden; 20 Grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; two brothers: Samuel Harris Sr. (Marietta), and Willie Graham Harris (Patricia); special in-laws: Charles Hicks and Georgiana Harris; Goddaughter, Lanetra Hicks; best friend, Etta Perkins; bonus sons: Valiant Hardy and Adelbert Savage; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Lueveina was preceded in death by her husband Harry Leroy Blakey, Sr.; parents: Catherine and Willie Joe Harris, stepfather James Harris; brothers: Carvey Harris (Georgiana), Harvey Harris, Wallace Harris (Nancy-deceased), Sherman Harris; and sister, Brenna Hicks (Charles).
