Obituary

Lewis Monroe Smith, 53, affectionately known as "DJ Lewis Lou", passed away at the Chester County Hospital in West Chester on Thursday, July 31, 2025.

Born on March 30, 1972, in West Chester, PA, Lewis was the cherished son of Alsenia Smith and stepfather, Michael Smith.

Lewis attended the West Chester public schools and graduated from East Senior High School in 1990. During his school years, he participated in the Special Olympics, where his talent and determination earned him three Gold medals and one Bronze. His love for wrestling led him to actively participate on his high school wrestling team. After school, Lewis dedicated 15 years to AGF in Malvern, where he was known for his strong work ethic and commitment, rarely missing a day of work.

A man of many passions, Lewis adored his daughter, Gracie, who was the light of his life. He had a deep love for music and was known to spin tracks from Reggae to Hip-hop to Jazz, earning him the nickname "DJ Lewis Lou". His extensive collection of albums was a testament to his musical devotion, and he was often the life of the party, whether at cookouts, the Star Social Club, or the Elks Lodge of West Chester. His beat-boxing skills were legendary among friends, and his uncanny ability to identify songs and artists was unmatched.

In addition to his musical talents, Lewis enjoyed swimming and basketball. He was known for his stylish wardrobe and was a proud Dallas Cowboys fan, often seen sporting his favorite Cowboys jersey and hat. Lewis was a friend to many, always willing to lend a hand and say "yes" when asked for help.

Lewis leaves cherished memories to his daughter, Grace Smith of Virginia; parents, Alsenia Smith and Michael Smith of West Chester; brothers, Leon Thomas, Michael Smith of West Chester, Ali Akbar Wells  (Bonnie) of Pottsown; 2 sisters, Michelle Smith of GA; Shenna Schockley of Exton, PA; aunts and uncles, Evie Johnson (Kevin), Richard Mack (Regina Butler) of Altoona, Donna Hill of Chester, PA,; stepson, Sterling Jones; grandfather, Allan Thomas, Sr. and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Connie Irons; aunt, Theresa Thomas; and uncles, Markus Thomas, Alan W. Thomas, Jr., and Nathan Thomas.
