IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Kenneth Thomas
Young
September 10, 1945 – July 31, 2024
Kenneth Thomas Young, known fondly as "Kenny," of Coatesville, PA, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at the Lancaster General Hospital. He was 78 years old.
Born in Coatesville, PA, he was the youngest of three sons born the late Samuel William Young, Sr. and Irene Bacon Young Worthy. He was a 1965 graduate of S. Horace Scott Senior High School, where he holds the 1964 Pole Vault record of 12'6". Kenny would further his education at Bowie State University.
Kenny was employed as a crane operator at the former Lukens Steel Company until he retired. Beyond his work, he was an adventurer at heart, often traveling to Africa to hunt wild game. He also had a passion for riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, trap shooting, loved to work on crossword puzzles, and enjoying a good cup of coffee from Wawa. His love for jazz and gospel music was well-known, as was his flair for fashion—Kenny was always impeccably dressed, complete with stylish hats, shoes, and his signature toothpick.
Kenny was a devout and faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Passtown in Coatesville, where he served as an usher for many years and was also a former chairman on the usher board. Kenny's faith was a cornerstone of his life. He was a Mason and a man of Christian values who enjoyed studying the Bible regularly.
He leaves behind a family that loved him dearly, including his brothers, Samuel William Young, Jr. and his wife Cheryl and Ronald Lawrence Young Sr.; nieces, Renae Long and Nicole Johnson; nephews, Samuel R. Young, Sr., and Ronald Lawrence Young, Jr.; great-nieces, Isis Young and Martanique Wayman; great-nephews, Samuel R. Young, Jr. and Terell Long; a special friend, Elvira Gibbs, who held an important place in his heart and a host of cousins, many great great-nieces and nephews and friends.
Kenny's vibrant spirit, adventurous nature, and impeccable style will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, who will cherish the times spent with him and the joy he brought into their lives.
