Joseph Jones, Jr., 67, of Coatesville, PA, passed away suddenly on Thursday, April 9, 2026, at his residence. Born in Manhattan, New York, he was the cherished son of the late Joseph Jones, Sr., and Bernice Powell Jones.
A 1977 graduate of Coatesville Area Senior High School, Joe was known for his dedication and hard work. After high school, he enrolled in the National Guard. He faithfully served in the housekeeping department at the Coatesville VA Medical Center, where he worked for over 30 years before retiring.
Joe’s passion for motorcycles was well known, as he not only loved riding but also founded his own club called the Street Burners Motorcycle Club. He owned several bikes and scooters. He traveled to many biking events around the United States. Joe loved it and met many new friends.
He had an appreciation for old school R&B, particularly the sounds of Art of Noise and James Brown. Joe was also known as “Dr. Rock”, a name acquired during his many years as a disc jockey. Joe played music for many events in Coatesville and surrounding areas. He also had a unique fondness for liver and okra.
In addition to his parents, Joseph was preceded in death by his beloved dog, Smokie, whose companionship brought him great comfort and joy.
Joe was not only loved by adults, but little people, also. They bonded with him, becoming friends and buddies. They would look for “Mr. Joe.”
Joe’s dream was to live in Georgia, and everyone knew it. Joe studied and talked about obtaining land and putting up a mobile home. He simply wanted to live somewhere else, since he lived in Coatesville all his life. He wanted a new beginning and peace.
He is survived by his wife, Frances Jones; daughter, Markia Bates of Coatesville; grandchildren, Naevia and Winter Smith; granddaughter, Raziel Bates; grandsons, Nahsir Glasco, Zàkary Coleman; stepson, Adryan Bates; stepdaughter, Natasha Graham; sister, Wanda Brown; nephew, Jaquinn Lander (Nina); favorite cousin, Sandra Simmons; close friends, Greg Ellis, Rene Parker, Gladys Jackson, Nicole Skelton and a host of cousins, other family and friends.
Joseph Jones/”Dr. Rock” will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in our hearts. We love you!
