Lewis
September 7, 1931 – December 19, 2021
John Bradford Lewis, 90, a life-long resident of South Coatesville, Pennsylvania passed away on Sunday, December 19, 2021, at his residence.
He was the son of the late John Lewis of Cape Charles, VA and the late Bessie Bryant-Lewis of Winnabow, NC. John was the husband of the late Leala Bell Davis-Lewis with whom he shared 46 years of marriage.
John was educated in the Coatesville Area public school system. He graduated from S. Horace Scott Senior High School in 1949.
After graduation, he went into the United States Army during the Korean War. He served faithfully for 3 years until he was honorably discharged.
John worked at the VA Hospital and also the former Lukens Steel and Bethlehem Steel company. He worked as a foreman in the furnace department, melting and casting where he received an award in 1977.
John enjoyed sports such as boxing, football, basketball, and baseball. He also enjoyed gardening and listening to music, especially jazz. Most of all, John enjoyed being with his family.
John is survived by one son, John Leonard Lewis; two daughters, Tina Marie Lewis and Sandra Lea Lewis all of Coatesville; two grandsons, Charles Dontae Lewis, Sr. of Coatesville and Shaun Bradford Lewis of Georgia; 5 great-grandchildren: Linda Lewis of Philadelphia, Charles Dontae Lewis, Jr. of Philadelphia, December Deeds of Coatesville, Charlize Lewis of Georgia, Chayse Lewis of Georgia; 3 great-great-grandchildren: Lenox Sanders, Logan Toney, Kammarius Toney and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
In addition to his wife, John was preceded in death by all of his siblings including six brothers: Eugene Lewis, Dan Early Lewis, Calvin Lewis, George Coleman Lewis, Richard Allen Lewis, Joseph "Joe" Mosby Lewis, Sr.; and three sisters: Gladys Lewis Dalton, Lucille Lewis, and Jessie May Conway.
A walk-thru public viewing will be held from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM, on Wednesday, December 29, 2021, at Wright Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc., 725 Merchant Street, Coatesville PA 19320.
