IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jerome G.
Fortune
July 17, 1949 – June 4, 2025
Jerome G. Fortune, 75, of Coatesville, PA, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones.
Born and raised in Coatesville, he was the son of the late Jerome B. "Sonny" Fortune and Lydia E. Wilson Fortune. He was the devoted husband of Jeanie M. Fortune, with whom he shared many years of love, laughter, and partnership.
Jerome was educated in the Coatesville Area public school system and went on to study History at Lane University, an interest that reflected his deep curiosity and wide-ranging knowledge.
A true Philadelphia sports fan through and through, Jerome cheered on all his hometown teams, but the Eagles held a special place in his heart. Whether it was professional, college, or high school sports, he followed them closely and loved talking about the games.
Jerome had a larger-than-life personality. He had a sharp eye for men's fashion, his wardrobe as bold and lively as he was, and a deep appreciation for music, especially R&B and rap. He rarely missed an episode of General Hospital, and his family fondly remembers the joy he took in following the storylines.
Above all, Jerome loved his family. He was a proud husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and unforgettable memories.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanie May Fortune of Coatesville; his children, Jay M. Ray of Coatesville, Dana Adam Lamar Ray of Richmond, VA, Demetrius L. Fiorentino, Andre E. Fiorentino, and Michelle Runkle, all of Pennsylvania; his sister, Denice Fortune of Oceanside, CA; his beloved aunts, Carrie Washington of Coatesville and Inez Hamlin (James) of Washington, DC; brother-in-laws Robert Allen Fiorentino and George Odell Johnson (Tameeka) of Coatesville; 17 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Monica "Monnie" L. McGibboney; his grandson, Cordell I'ran Fiorentino-Floyd; his sister-in-law, Veronica "Kitty" L. Fiorentino; his brother-in-law, Wayman A. Fiorentino, and his niece, Mercedes D. Fortune.
Services celebrating his life will be held at 11 AM, on Friday, June 20, 2025, at Second Baptist Worship Center, 857 Lumber Street, Coatesville PA. A viewing will be held from 9 AM until 10:45 AM. Friends may greet the family at 10:15 AM.
