IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jean M.
Purcell
February 19, 1949 – December 29, 2025
On Monday, December 29, 2025, Jean Purcell, of Downingtown, PA, passed away unexpectedly at home.
On February 19, 1949, Chester and Addie Johnson became parents to another set of twins. This time twin girls. Jean, also affectionately known as "Nute" grew up in Coatesville, Unionville and eventually Kennett Square, PA.
In the mid 60's, at Harvey's Rock, she met a guy from Coatesville named Melvin. If you let him tell it, he dove in the water and splashed so hard he spelled out NUTE and that's how he got her number. Jean and Melvin married and had 2 children, then she became a proud grandmother of twins and she said it is the most magnificent love you can ever receive.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin W. Purcell Sr.; parents, Chester L. Johnson and Addie Mason Johnson Fisher; her bonus dad, Mossitt Fisher; her twin sister, Jane Hazelton; three brothers, Hiram Franklin, Robert Franklin, Louis Johnson; four sisters, Betty Brown Coleman, Shirley Mae Franklin, Barbara M. Aponte and Estelle L. Johnson.
She leaves behind her daughter, Mia K. Purcell; son Melvin W. Purcell, Jr.; as well as her granddaughter, Don`Jhea K. Kenner; grandson, Donald C. Kenner Jr.; nephew, Jamal Purcell who she loved like a son; her great niece, Germani J. Morris; her Babygirl, who kept her laughing, busy, and filled her heart with joy and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins amd friends.
We love our mom and grandmom and aren't sure how to move forward right now but, our parents instilled God in our lives and we know that, through Him, all things are possible.
No services are planned at this time.
Condolences may be shared through the guestbook link on this memorial page. All are welcome to light a candle in her memory.
