On Sunday, January 11, 2026, James Hunter McDevitt, of West Caln township in Coatesville, PA, passed away. He was 84 years old.

Born in Bryn Mawr, PA, he was the son of the late John Joseph and Kathleen Margaret (Hunter) McDevitt. He was the beloved husband of Judith DuBois (Hansen) Shoemaker, and the father of Sara Behrendt and Katie McDevitt.

In addition to his wife Judith and daughters, Sara and Katie, James is survived by; twin brother, Johnny McDevitt of Glenmoore, PA, and two grandchildren, Cash and Eli Behrendt.

James was known as "Mr. Fix It" to his family, and was skilled at carpentry. He often took carpentry classes to hone his skills.

He enjoyed spending a lot time with his sister, Katie. And he was a lover of animals.

James was a retired police officer, having served in the Radnor township for 28 years.

The time spent with James will be treasured by his wife, Judith, and his family, especially his nephews and nieces, whom he enjoyed spending a lot of time with.

The family will have a private gathering at a later date.
