James Edward Baker, Sr., 90, of Coatesville, PA, surrounded by his family, passed away Friday, December 20, 2024, at home.

James was born in McIntosh, Georgia, on February 17, 1934, to the late Rev. Luda Pearl (Hendry) Baker and Herbert Theodore Baker, Sr.  He was the husband of the late Maxine G. Baker.

James attended Liberty County High School in Midway, Georgia. He served in the United States Army as a Private First Class, during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in August of 1956.

Jim, as he was known by family and friends, worked as a supervisor of housekeeping at the Coatesville VA Medical Center. He also worked at Lukens Steel company.

He enjoyed eating out, going to horse races, and cruising in his car through the city of Coatesville. He loved doing yard work at home and working with his brother "Herb" throughout the area. He also inherited a lawn business from Herbert Sr., his father. Jim had a pleasant personality and was known to be a bit of a jokester.

He is survived by daughters Alicia "Lisa" Baker, Marcia Davis, and Lucia Williams, all of Coatesville; son James E. Baker, Jr. (wife, Susan) of Lancaster, PA; stepchildren Letitia Stainbrook, Sabrina White, Nicole Davis, and Leann Riley; sister Dell Gibbs (husband, Maurice) of Jacksonville, FL; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by a son, Rodrick Bookhart; stepson, Aaron Davis; brother, Herbert Baker; and sister, Helen Ben.

James will be deeply missed and his memory will live on in our hearts.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 30th, at Wright Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc. in Coatesville, PA, with a viewing beginning at 9:00 a.m.

Interment with military honors will be held in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at 10:30 AM.  S42 G1205
