Obituary

Irma L. Bailey, 84, of Coatesville, passed away April 13, 2017 at home. She was the daughter of the late Charles Cook and Mary F. Cook (Mobley).

Irma was educated in the Coatesville Area School District. She attended the Historical James Adams School and graduated from Scott High School in 1951.  She attended Cheyney State College, Elizabethtown College, Temple University and West Chester State Teachers College.

She was employed at the Chester County Intermediate Unit #24 Child Development Center in Coatesville as a Work Experience Counselor for several years. She also had been employed at the Coatesville VA Hospital and Pennsylvania Psychological Services in Philadelphia.

Being civic minded, she was a Community Supporter, and participated on several Boards and Foundations.

Irma is survived by her sons, Dr. William W. Bailey III (Linda) of Coatesville, Dennis C. Bailey (Carla) of Downingtown, Mark D. Bailey (Doris) of Coatesville, Bruce E. Bailey (Deborah) of Jenkintown; a daughter, Sandra L. Bailey Baxter of Coatesville; a brother, Joel Kennedy of Coatesville; Okema Beauford, whom she helped raise; 15 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; one aunt, Phyllis C. Boyd of West Chester; son-in-law, Milton E. Baxter, Jr. of Coatesville; sister-in-laws: Patricia A. Winkey of Lancaster, Lecollia J. Bond (William) of Oklahoma City, OK, Edith Bailey of Reading, Kathryn Bailey of Coatesville; lifelong friends, Joan Pugh Allen, Anna Ashton, Jacquelyn Wilson-Blount, "Joy" Dolores Wilson-Ballard, Jean Eggleston, Ira Enell Richardson, Isabelle Robinson, Donald "Turk" Williams, The Horwitz Family, and friends from the Beth Israel Congregation.

The family wishes to thank those who helped care for their mother, especially the Freedom Village Assisted Living staff, the Brookdale Hospice staff, caregivers: LaWanda McGlone, Monica Corporal, Lillian Hoggard, Ciara Griffin, and Maytha Brown. Special thanks to Andrea Smith, Violet Armstead and Betty Jacks-Eshun.

Friends are invited to a viewing from 9 AM - 11 AM on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at the Episcopal Church of the Trinity, 323 East Lincoln Hwy, Coatesville, PA. The interment will be held immediately following the viewing, in Union Hill Cemetery, Kennett Square, PA.
