IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Helen T.
(Mcfadden) Nicholson
June 1, 1937 – April 25, 2024
Helen T. (McFadden) Nicholson entered this life on June 1, 1937, in Reading, PA. Born to the late John McFadden and Anna Ponticarvo-McFadden, she was the youngest of her siblings.
Helen would go on to earn her High School Diploma from Reading Central Catholic High School in 1955. Helen later matriculated and earned a Degree as a Registered Nurse from St. Joseph's Hospital in 1958. Helen with her bold and courageous spirit later met and married Arthur Blake Sr. during the civil rights era in the early 1960's. From this union was born Francine Blake-Norman and Arthur Blake Jr. Arthur Blake Sr. would sadly take his eternal rest on December 31, 1964.
She would later meet and marry the late James Nicholson and from this union was born their daughter, Donna (Nicholson) Dye and her granddaughter, Rebecca Gray (whom she helped raise). Helen and James would later relocate from Pennsylvania to Maryland in 1984 where they lived together for many years. James departed this life on June 20, 1999.
Helen was a wonderful and very caring nurse. She would go on to work for and retire as a private duty nurse with Helping Hands of Maryland. Helen's love for people and children showed through the countless children that she cared for and fostered over the years following her retirement. She enjoyed making ceramics, reading, and spending time with her grandchildren of whom she had six, Alexis, Shaunte, Rebecca, Amanda, Megan, and Christopher. From these grandchildren would be born seven great grandchildren.
She was pre-deceased by her son Arthur Blake Jr and her siblings: James, Larry, and Rita.
Helen will be sorely missed for her spunky attitude and her quiet but noticeable wit. She had a way of "putting you in your place" without saying many words. Helen was a believer in Christ and because of that she is more alive in her new body now then she has ever been. She will be sorely missed by her daughters; Francine (Alexander) of Coatesville, PA, and Donna (Ken) of Raymond, NH.
Helen peacefully took her rest on this side of the Jordan, surrounded by her daughters on April 25, 2024. To be absent with the body is to be present with the Lord. Helen lived well and cared for many. Her memory will live on through her children and grandchildren.
Per her request there will be a private graveside memorial held at a later date to be announced. The family of Helen (McFadden) Nicholson thanks you all for your kind gestures and prayers.
