Obituary

Grace Mornix Forbes was born on May 7, 1938, in Barrouallie, St. Vincent in the West Indies, the sixth of nine children to Athalie and Josiah Mornix. Raised in a home filled with love, faith, and resilience, she grew up alongside her siblings: Joye, Jael, Isaac, Louie, Keziah (all of whom have predeceased her), and her surviving brother, Jacinth and sisters Pearl, and Adnah, who currently reside in Canada.

Grace's early path led her to study teaching, but at the age of 17, she felt a divine calling to nursing a vocation through which she would serve and uplift others for over five decades. She lived in the Nursing Quarters in Kingston, St. Vincent, until February 1963, when she immigrated to the United States of America in search of opportunity and purpose.

She became a Registered Nurse in 1964, devoting herself to the care of others until her retirement in 2017, a career that spanned 53 years. Her service was more than a profession it was her ministry.

On September 20, 1969, Grace married Grafton Forbes, with whom she shared a union until his passing in 2023. Together, they raised their children: Rufus (who preceded her in death in 2013), Camille, Debbie, and Paul. She found joy in being a mother and even more in the multigenerational love that surrounded her.

Grace was a woman of deep faith, who read her Bible every day and dedicated her life to the service of the Lord. Her faith guided her actions, shaped her character, and brought light into every room she entered.

She adored spending time with her family and took immense pride in her role as matriarch. She is lovingly remembered by her grandchildren: Alexandra McGlond (Chris), Caliyah Williams, Nikkia Russell, Tyriek, and Taquan Mornix, and her great-grandchildren: Elise Arielle, Raven Grace, and Roman Giovanni McGlond.

Grace also shared a special bond with her nieces Patricia Ann Cordice and Vaghn Robertson, as well as dear lifelong friends: Rosa Santino, Isola Williams, Valerie Gayle, and Preddie.

After a life well lived marked by compassion, commitment, faith, and unwavering love. Grace departed this world peacefully in her sleep on July 19, 2025, in Pennsylvania, where she had resided since 2019.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Grafton, her son Rufus, and her siblings Joye, Jael, Isaac, Louie, and Keziah.
