Obituary

Gladys J. Flamer, 105, of Coatesville, departed this life, Feb. 8, 2012 at the Harrison House Senior Living in Christiana, PA. She was the wife of the late Paul Flamer.

After graduating from Coatesville High School in 1925, she became a member of the Hutchinson Memorial UAME Church in Coatesville.

She loved her church and served there for about 87 years. Gladys has served as a Steward, President of the Sunshine Circle and a member of the Senior Usher Board.

For over 50 years, she has been treasurer of the Eureka Chapter #12 Order of Easter Star.

Gladys became a licensed beautician in 1933 and owned her own shop for over 20 years.  In 1967, she became an LPN. She employed at the Embreeville State Hospital and the Coatesville VA Hospital.  At the age of 90, she retired from Strawbridge and Clothier Store.

Gladys has always been civic minded. She was a member of the Coatesville Historical Society.  There were few city council meetings that she missed.  She served as Judge of Elections for Coatesville's 5th Ward until 2010. Also in 2010, Gladys was honored by the Graystone Society and received the Rebecca Lukens Award.

She will be missed by her family and friends.

Funeral Services will be held 11 am, Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at the Hutchinson Memorial Church, 825 E. Chestnut St., Coatesville. Her viewing will be from 9 am -11am. Friends are also invited to pay their respects on Tuesday, Feb 14 at Wright Funeral & Cremation Services, 725 Merchant St, Coatesville from 5 pm – 7pm.

Interment will be in the Mount Zion AME Church Cemetery, Atglen.
