Obituary

Gardenia Victoria Brown Shelton, affectionately known as "Grammy" to many, was born on August 23, 1945, in Coatesville, Pennsylvania. Gardenia passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on January 23, 2026, at the Paoli Hospital, Paoli, Pennsylvania.

Gardenia was the daughter of the late Ashby Lee and Grace Esther Gibbs Brown. She was united in marriage to Sherman Shelton in 1962.

She was a member of Trinity United Bible Church of Coatesville, PA., where she served on the Pastor's Aide ministry, and was a faithful Sunday School attendee, up until the time of her transition to the Tel Hai Nursing Home in Honey Brook, PA.

She leaves a treasure of precious memories to her five girls: Traci A. Shelton of New Oxford, Erica D. Brickus (Reginald), Trevoh S. Shelton, Amina R. Gilchrist (Kenneth), Francesca M. E.; siblings: Gregory Brown of Caldwell, ID, Barbara Brown of Coatesville, Lamont Thomas of Lancaster, Rodney Hansley of Wilmington, NC, Shawn Brown of Florida, Maurice Brown and Crystal Daily (Al) of San Antonio, Texas; her beloved grandchildren: Tracina Shelton, Greg Shelton, Adrienne Shelton, Musheerah Brake, David Winkey, Amir Brake, Derrick Winkey, Trente' Allen (Donald), and Jada Brickus; her great grandchildren: Rodney Shelton, Azuri Pugh, Amir Brake Jr., Skylar Allen and Xavier Allen; uncle, Charles Gibbs and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Gardenia was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, Lewis L. Brown, Ashby L. Brown, Mary Maxine Davis, Sandra D. Rollins, Clifford Thomas, Joann M. Roy, Sharon A. Gary, and Larry Hansley; nephew, Phillip Brown; niece, Tina Marie Thomas; great nephew, Brian Keith Brown, and her great grandson, Phoenix Prince Kornegay.

Gardenia leaves a lasting legacy of love, strength, and family devotion that will live on through all who knew her.

Homegoing Services will be held at 4:00 PM, on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at New Life in Christ Fellowship, 1 South 5th Avenue, Coatesville, PA. A viewing will be held from 2:00 PM until 3:45 PM.
