Obituary

Life began for Ernest Jones in Cheraw, South Carolina on July 24, 1951. He was born with his twin sister, Bernice Jones. He was the youngest son of Ernest Burns and Flora Mae Jones. He was never married and had no children. Ernest was affectionately known as "Bug" or "Uncle Boot" by many of his family and friends.

On March 3, 2023, God dispatched his angel of mercy, to set his spirit free and called him home from labor to reward at the age of seventy-one years.

Ernest attended the Coatesville area school district and graduated from CASH High School in 1970. Upon graduation, Ernest was employed by the Embreeville State Hospital as a Nurse's Aide and an Environmental Specialist until his early retirement.

Ernest worked for the New Evergreen Cemetery as a burial and maintenance assistant. He was also employed by The First Baptist Church of Passtown as an Environmental Specialist for many years. Ernest was the kind of man who loved people and needed to be around people even after he became too ill to maintain nine-to-five employment.

Ernest was a handyman and would work odd jobs for many of our local businesses. He loved music and dance and would mimic great dancers like Chuck Berry and James Brown. He loved to sing and play the harmonica, which he started playing at a young age and brought so much joy to our lives.

Too often, we measure "A Man's Worth" by how famous or how much money he might have. That was not Uncle Bug's, topic of conversation. Moreover, he was a happy-go-lucky person. He was a giant of a man, with a heart just as big. We thank God for his life, however brief it might have been; he meant the world to us and to have him as a brother, uncle, cousin and friend.

Thank you, Uncle Bug, for being the person that you were. You made us laugh and when we cried, we cried together, because at the end of the day we are still family.

Ernest leaves a great legacy to be cherished by his twin sister, Bernice Henderson and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

He was predeceased by his older siblings including sisters: Frances Buchanan, Flora Mae Jones, and Ruth Sheppard; brothers; Melton Ellerbe, Nathaniel Jones, Lee Jones, Bob Jones, Nugg Jones, and Bow Jones. God willing you will all join hands in Heaven as a family again.
