("Hawk") Durnell
September 10, 1940 – March 27, 2024
Elwood Howard Durnell, 83, of Coatesville, PA passed away, on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at the Paoli Memorial Hospital, in Paoli.
Born in West Chester, PA, he was the son of the late Howard and Bernice Durnell Sullivan. He was affectionately known as "Hawk" by his family and friends.
Elwood worked as a nurse's assistant at the Embreeville State Hospital in Coatesville for many years. He enjoyed playing cards, watching horse races, playing pool which he was very good at in his younger years, sharing stories, and loved talking to people. He also enjoyed going to church and listening to Gospel music, and the sounds of R&B. In addition, he loved watching sports, especially football as his favorite team was the Denver Broncos.
He is survived by his children, Rev. Barry Perry of Coatesville, Deszere Green of Connecticut, Kristen Durnell of Coatesville, Darrell Simpson of Connecticut, Pastor Daryl A. Perry, Sr. (Yvonne) of Coatesville; sister, Charlotte Henry of New Brittian, Connecticut; many grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Phillip T. Durnell; son, Tyrone Clarke; nephew Larry Ferguson; sisters, Jacqueline Ferguson, Cecilia Butt; and grandson, Darryl A. Perry, Jr.
Homegoing Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 6th, 2024, at Coatesville Bible Fellowship, 6 North 4th Avenue, Coatesville, Pennsylvania. A viewing with be held from 9:00 AM until 10:45 AM.
