Deacon Edward Payne, Jr., 75, of Lincoln University, passed away on May 17, 2015 at the Brandywine Hospital.  Born in Virginia, he was the son of the late John Edward Payne, Sr. and Anna Walker Payne. He was the husband of Mary Emma Jones Payne with whom he shared 52 years of marriage.

He had been employed as a Philadelphia Police Officer for 25 years retiring in 1986. He also worked at the Embreeville State Hospital and PennDot.

He served as Co-Chairman of the Trustee Board and then became chairman of the Deacon Board at Enon Missionary Baptist Church in West Grove.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Payne; five siblings: Theresa Yates, Robert Payne, Alphonso Payne, Randall Payne and Evelyn Payne all of Philadelphia, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  He was preceded in death by four sisters and one brother.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 23, at the Mary Dod Brown Memorial Chapel, 1570 Baltimore Pike, Lincoln University, PA 19352 with a viewing from 8 until 9:45 a.m.

Interment will be in the Union Hill Cemetery, Kennett Square.
