IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Duane E.
(Wayne) Smith
October 2, 1966 – January 23, 2026
Duane Edward Smith, 59, of Parkesburg, PA, passed away suddenly on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at Paoli Memorial Hospital in Paoli, PA.
Born in Coatesville on October 2, 1966, Duane was the beloved son of James Rawls and the late Lula Mae Thomas.
Duane was employed as a Residential Program Supervisor at Keystone Human Services, where his compassion, leadership, and genuine care for others were evident in all he did. He also worked at Giant in Thorndale, where his warm spirit and friendly nature left a lasting impression on coworkers and customers alike.
More than anything, Duane was known for the way he lived and loved. He was a world traveler and a connoisseur of fine things, with an eye for style that showed in his impeccable dress and his talent for home design. A gifted cook, Duane found joy in bringing people together around good food, beautiful spaces, and meaningful conversation.
Above all, Duane was one of the kindest humans to ever walk this earth. He valued time with family and friends, always showed up for the people he loved, and had a rare ability to make everyone feel like the most important person in the room. He loved deeply, gave generously, and would do anything for anyone without hesitation. Life on earth will truly never be the same without him.
Duane is survived by his sisters, Tiffany Thomas Pearlman (Robert) and Dalphyne L. Clark, both of Coatesville, and Susan O'Cain-Wilson (Artago) of San Francisco, California; his brothers, Harry Lee Smith (Karen) and Derek C. Thomas both of Coatesville; sister cousins, Shawn Lee (Troy), Dr. Teresa Powell Tooles (Aaron), and Tara Lee (Tommy); aunts, Thelma A. Lee, Ina Lavender, and Tammy Lavender; uncles, Tyrone Smith (Inana), James L. Smith (Berneice), Earl Smith and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who were forever changed by his love and presence.
In addition to his mother, Lula Mae Thomas, Duane was preceded in death by his brother, John W. "Buff" Thomas, Jr.
Duane leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and presence—a reminder to show up fully for one another, to love without limits, and to live with generosity of spirit. His light will continue to shine in the lives and hearts of all who were blessed to know him.
