IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Demetrius O.
Gilliam, Sr.
August 25, 1957 – August 2, 2022
Demetrius O. Gilliam, Sr., "Big Meach", 64, of Coatesville passed away Tuesday, August 2, 2022, at home. He was born in Philadelphia to the late John and Doristeen Gilliam.
Big Meach was known for his vibrant and enthusiastic personality and hearty laugh. He was a Master Contractor by trade and loved what he did. Especially working alongside his father and brothers in their family business. Meach started his journey in construction with Zarelli Landscaping. He continued to work for Gus Zarelli for 30 years, maintaining a good relationship with the company and the family. Thereafter he started a branch of his own under his father's company Gilliam and sons.
Besides work, he also enjoyed traveling and enjoyed deep-sea fishing. This passion came with his largest catch in Punta Cana which he gave to the hotel so that they could cook and serve it to the guests.
Big Meach loved listening to old school r&b while cooking food and enjoying friends and family. Watching cooking shows and having the most up-to-date equipment for grilling was a small enjoyment. Another joy was being proud of his children.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers Kenneth D. Gilliam, Sr., and John Gilliam, Jr.
He is survived by two sons, Demetrius O. Gilliam, Jr. (Michelle ) of Coatesville, Amari Gilliam of Winter Haven, FL; one daughter, Tanisha St John (Shawn) of Coatesville; 5 grandchildren: Zha'Qweyza "Tweet", Tyree, Naviye, Shannon "Poppy", and Zariah; 3 greatgrands, Kiye "Moot-Moot", Rah'miyah and De'ante; brothers, Reginald Gilliam (Lucy), Melvin Gilliam, Bernard Gilliam all of Coatesville, Clark Gilliam (Leslie) of Atglen; sisters, Valerie Campbell, Michelle Gilliam, Gigi Gilliam all of Coatesville; former spouse, Georgia Grinion "Odale" and a host of nieces and nephews that he loved separately in his own way; cousins, and lifelong friends he'd never forget.
