Obituary

Deacon David Jasper Williams, 81, of Coatesville, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, January 23, 2020, at the Paoli Hospital. Born in Detroit, Michigan, he was the son of the late Henry and Josephine Williams.  David was the husband of the late Alsenia D. Tucker Williams with whom he shared 53 years of marriage.

David was employed as a public relations rep at the former Luken's Steel Company in Coatesville. After his time at Luken's, he was the owner of Williams & Clark men's clothing store in the City of Coatesville for a few years. He later became employed in the Domestic Relations department for the County of Chester until he retired in 2016.

After attending the Million Man March in 1995, he became one of the founding members of CIHU (Can I Help You) which was instrumental in establishing the Zero Tolerance policy in the City of Coatesville. He also was a member of the Chester County Housing Authority Board. A 32nd Degree Mason, he was a member of the Lily of the Valley Lodge #59, Minaret Temple #174, the Charles E. Gordon Consistory #65 and Holy Royal Arch Mason, Mt. Lebanon #18. David was a faithful member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church in Coatesville, PA. Over the years he served with the kitchen committee, a member of the Rosebud Ushers, sang in the choir and currently served as chairman of the deacon board. David was an avid fisherman. He also enjoyed occasional trips to the casino. Most of all he enjoyed going to church and spending time with his  children and grandchildren.

In addition to his wife Alsenia, he is preceded in death by one brother, Richard Williams. He is survived by son, David J.C. Williams of Coatesville; daughter, Davida D. Washington of Coatesville; siblings, Lillian Austin, Danial Williams, Sr., of Detroit Michigan; four grandchildren: Deja Washington, Wayland Washington, Jr., Jayland Washington and Janise Woodward (Christopher); great grands, Christopher, Jr. and Noelle Woodward; brother-in-law: Alfred Tucker; sister-in-laws Jacqueline Tucker, Bernice Surratt; best friend, Robert  Gray and a host of other relatives and friends. Service celebrating his life will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, February 1st, at the Tabernacle Baptist Church, 819 Coates Street, Coatesville, with a viewing beginning at 8 AM. Friends may greet the family at 9:30 AM at the church.  A masonic ritualistic service will be observed at 10 AM.

Interment will be held privately. Condolence messages for the family may be shared on the guestbook page. Flowers may be sent to the church on the day of the service.
