Obituary

David Eugene Shockley passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends on July 17, 2019. He was 84 years old.

David was born on January 6, 1935, in Port Deposit, Maryland. He was the son of Mildred Ann Shockley and Aubery Sims.

David attended school at James Adams School in Coatesville. Right after high school, David joined the U.S. Navy.  After serving in the Navy,  he was employed at Lukens Steel in Coatesville for 36 years and during this time he married Henrietta T. Bowman with whom he shared 48 years of marriage.

David was a member of Bell Chapel Church in Coatesville where his family attended.  He enjoyed watching old western movies and listening to music with friends.  He also enjoyed spending time with his grandkids; whom he raised. He had strange nicknames for all of them: Tunesia (Buttercup) Shyra (Butt Butt), Chicqueta (Snake Hips), Takiesha (old lady), Tiwanna (Stuckey Book), Tameka (Mekus), and his favorite of them all, Damere (Buddy Boo). David enjoyed taking them to Maryland to eat crabs and giving them history lessons.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons, David Joseph (Terri), Anthony Shockley, William Shockley and Derrick Butcher (T-sheana); five daughters, Crystal Joseph, Harriet Butcher, Laura Butcher, Donna Shockley Easter (Frank) and Jeannette Shockley and a host of grands, great grands, and a great-great-grandson.

He also leaves, four brothers, Sherman Shelton, Raymond Shelton, Sr. (Brenda), Cornelius Shelton, Sidney Shelton, Sr.; six sisters, Violet Anthony, Elizabeth Hassan (As-Saboor), Cordelia Bowman, Martha Shelton, Mary Shelton, and Stella Wiggins.

He was preceded in death by six brothers, Wayne Shelton, William Shockley, Walter Shelton, James Shelton, Andrew Shelton, Sr., Elmer Shelton, Sr.; one sister, Rahel Tinsley; one great-grandson, Rasheem Butcher; and one great-granddaughter, Rosalie Faith Crothers Shockley.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, July 24, 2019, at Bell Chapel True Holiness Church, 132 Modena Rd, Coatesville, PA.  A viewing will be held from 9:00 AM until the service time.

Interment will be held privately. Condolences for the family may be shared using the online guest book.
