Obituary

Deacon Charles Ward was born in Wilson County North Carolina on March 14, 1922.  Affectionately known as Charlie, he was one of seven siblings. He was the son of the late James and Nina Newsome Ward. Charlie was the husband of Lorraine Eggleston Ward. Together they shared 29 years of marriage.

Raised in Wilson County, Charlie attended the local area public school system until he was drafted into the military. A US Army Veteran, he faithfully served during World War II until he was honorably discharged.

He had been employed at Lukens Steel for 43 years, working as a second help in the electric melting shop until retirement.

Charlie was an avid fisherman who enjoyed gardening and cooking, especially baking pies and cakes. He had a passion for boxing, loved playing with the kids, and was known to be a sharp dresser. Most of all, he love to read and study the bible.

On February 17th, 2011, Deacon Ward went to be with the Lord. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife Justine Green Ward; his sisters, Lessie Mae Littles, Lalia Artis, Emma Kyle; brother, James Ward, son, Tyrone B Ward and daughter, Gloria J Carter.

He leaves to cherish his memory wife, Lorraine V. Ward; sons, Charles H. Ward and  wife Shirley, Arnold J. Ward, Donald V. Ward, Charles A. Ward and wife Vineya all of Coatesville, Rahsad Ward of Detroit, Michigan; brother, Chester Ward and wife Rheba of Coatesville; his sister, Bessie Best of Pikeville, North Carolina; 18 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 6 great great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.

Deacon Ward will be greatly missed, however, we rejoice in knowing that he is in the presence of the Lord.
