Terry
July 19, 1937 – March 25, 2024
Charles James Terry of Coatesville, Pennsylvania transitioned from his earthly home while at Bryn Mawr Hospital in Bryn Mawr, PA on March 25, 2024. He was 86 years old.
Charles was born in Roanoke, Alabama on July 19, 1937, to Lois (Yancey) Terry and Charlie B. Terry. Charles grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania along with his only sibling, Esther Marie (Terry) Scott. He graduated from Westinghouse High School.
Charles enjoyed shopping, listening to jazz, attending family reunions, traveling, and driving up and down the East Coast. He was a bus driver for major commercial bus lines before he retired from Chrysler Corporation after more than 40 years of service. After his retirement, he worked for several years as a bus driver for a local school district in Pennsylvania.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Esther "Marie" Scott, and her husband Eugene Scott; stepson, George Carter Jr., and step-grandson, Craig Carter.
He is survived by his widow, Alice M. (Carter) Terry; his beloved niece, Teri Sims-Scott (Treves); and his children: Mildred J. Jenkins, Charlene Terry-Sinckler (Dyrnest), Charlotte Inez Jones-Scott (Charles), Khuluwd Yushua (Donna Terry), Carolyn D. Terry Jones, Charles Bernard Terry (Fran), James Lamont Jones, and Rhonda L. Terry. He is also survived by his stepchildren: Daryl Carter (Arlene), Larry Carter, Cheryl Shackelford (Robin), Dana Carter (LaRhonda), Roderick Carter, and Brenda Smith-Treadwell (Maurice). He often boasted about being "Pop" to 30 grand and great-grandchildren. He was loved by a very long list of cousins.
Charles loved the Lord and was a member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church in Coatesville. He made a lasting impression on all who knew him. The family will host a private gathering with loved ones to celebrate his life and legacy.
