Charlene Eloise Lawson Johnson, 78, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 9, 2025.
Born in West Chester, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Annie E. Lawson.
She was happily married to James Edward Johnson for more than 40 years. They shared a happy and fulfilling union of love.
Charlene was a graduate of the West Chester Area School District, and then she went on to graduate from Immaculata University with a nursing degree.
She worked many years at local, county and state nursing home facilities before ending her career and retiring from Norristown State Hospital.
Charlene enjoyed eating crabs, shopping, and baking. She attended Hutchinson UAME Church where she served in the kitchen committee. She made delicious cakes. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with family.
She is survived by her husband, James Johnson; step-sons, Andrew Johnson (Annette) and James Cleveland Johnson (Donna); siblings: Anne E. Lawson of Sharon Hill, PA, Nora M. Lawson of Pottstown, PA, Ruth M. Lawson of Philadelphia, PA, John R. Lawson of Atglen, PA, Joseph P. Lawson of Coatesville, PA, Dawn Boyer, Joyce Boyer, Bruce Boyer, and Kenneth Boyer of West Chester, PA; In laws: Ellen McGill (James) of Fleming Island, Florida, Mattie Vereen, Ann Miller (Charlie), Arthur Johnson, Felton Eaddie of Mullens, South Carolina and a whole host of nieces, nephews and grandchildren.
Charlene was predeceased by her parents, Charles H. Lawson, Sr. and Annie E. Lawson, her aunts and uncles, siblings, George H Lawson, Claudine L. Boyer, Charles H. Lawson, Jr. (Dorothy), Ronald L. Lawson, and Charlotte M. Pernsley.
Her presence and laughter will be deeply missed by her family, friends and the community.
A Homegoing Service will be held at 11:00 AM, on Thursday, July 17, 2025, at the historic Hutchinson Memorial UAME Church, 825 East Chestnut Street, Coatesville, PA 19320. A public viewing will be held from 9:00 – 10:45 AM.
The interment will be held privately.
