Bishop Dr. Morgan William Powell, 92, of Coatesville, PA, was called home to be with the Lord on Friday, March 1, 2019 at Harrison Senior Living in Christiana, PA.

Born in Johnson City, Tennesee, he was the son of the late Claudia (Jones) Powell and Aaron Featherstone.  He was raised by his mother and his step-father Arthur Powell.   He was known in the Coatesville Community as "Rev. Powell".

He was a graduate of Oceola Mills High School. He was a star football player in High School; they called him the "Black Streak". He received an Evangelism Certificate from the Full Gospel Assembly in Sadsburyville, PA. He continued in various theological studies until he received a doctorate at New Life Theological Seminary.

He served in the US Navy during World War II until he was honorably discharged.

Rev. Powell was a member of Set Free By The Word Ministries in Coatesville, PA. Over the years, he helped start the Farmer's Memorial Church of God in Christ in Preston, MD. He also served as Pastor of Church of the Second Chance in Coatesville.

In the early '60s through the '80s, Rev. Powell was known in the community for sponsoring gospel singing concerts and joy nights through-out the Coatesville Area.

He worked as a Chaplin at the Coatesville VA Medical Center for 5 years. He taught at Full Gospel Assembly in Sadsburyville for many years. In addition, he worked in the maintenance department at Regency Apartments in Coatesville.

Rev. Powell traveled to Israel 3 times. He was a producer of gospel singing groups such as Malachi and the Voices of Love and traveled with them while preaching throughout the New England states. He attended the James Cleveland Gospel Music Workshop conventions.

Psalm 37:4 says: "Delight thyself also in the Lord: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart." Rev. Powell had a great desire to see people get saved. He loved his family and was proud of his children and grandchildren.

Rev. Powell was preceded in death by two brothers, Houston Featherstone and Arthur Lee Powell; and one sister, Vernice Powell.

He is survived by three sisters, Eveline Butcher and Mabel Green both of Chester, PA, Ardmae Jones of California; sister-in-law, Arthurmay Featherstone and a host of nieces, nephews as well as many spiritually adopted sons, daughters and grandchildren.
