Andrew Nolan Thomas, "Blackie", 55, of Downingtown, PA, passed away early Monday morning at the West Chester Rehabilitation Center.
Born in West Chester, he was the son of Carolyn Steele Thomas, and the late Harry Thomas, Sr.
Andrew was a graduate of Downingtown Senior High School class of 1985. He worked at Depaco in Downingtown, PA for many years. After leaving Depaco, Andrew worked as a roofer with The Cedar Roofing Company.
Andrew was an avid fisherman. He once went salmon fishing up north with his long-time friend Dale Gentry. Andrew talked about that trip for years. We also ate salmon for months.
Andrew also loved to travel all over to attend car shows. He also liked to race his electric cars. He was a Volkswagen and food enthusiast. He also liked to try foods from different countries.
One of his favorite foods was cassava leaves over rice, a dish from Sierra Leone, West Africa.
Andrew is survived by his mother, Carolyn Thomas-Kamara of Downingtown; one daughter, Azure Thomas; sons, Julian Thomas, and Jeremiah Thomas; step-son, Christopher Mack; grandchildren who were the joy of his life, Gabriel, Monna and Andrei; siblings: Gwendolyn (Von) Thomas, Harry Thomas, III, Kenneth A. Brown, Sr., Trevor Thomas of Eugene, Oregon, Chrissy Gray, Carla Brown Boggs; aunts and uncles: William C. Steele, Sr., Lloyd W. Steele, Sr., Lawrence Thomas, Sr., John Thomas, Sr., Muriel Steele Burgess, Cora Thomas, Agnes Hamon, Mary Ann Merritt, Doris Mickens, Vivian Francis, Harlan Thomas Sr., and Florence Thomas; 13 nieces and nephews; 6 great nieces and nephews; sister-cousin, Tamara Steele, special great niece, Isabella DiCamillo and a large host of relatives and good friends.
Andrew will be deeply missed. His memory will forever be in our hearts.
The family is doing a Memorial Service at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 4, 2023, at Bethel AME Church, 334 East Miner St, West Chester, PA. Friends may visit with the family beginning at 10:30 am until the start of the service. Please note: There will not be a public viewing.
