Sonya Marie Crutchfield, 38, was born September 7, 1980 in West Chester, Pennsylvania to Barry R. and Joyce (Plater) Crutchfield.  She was the youngest of three children.

Sonya resided in Coatesville, Pennsylvania and was educated in the Coatesville Area School District.

Sonya was a Region IV Health Specialist with ICF International.  She provided Training and Technical Assistance (T/TA) to Head Start/Early Head Start Health Managers predominantly in the states of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, and Mississippi.

She had long been passionate about dance.  At age 5 she began training at Harrison’s School of Dance in West Chester, Pennsylvania, focusing on the skill building genres of ballet, jazz, and tap. At age 12 she joined the B. Fox dance troupe, a modern/liturgical traveling dance company.  While performing in the company, she trained and competed for Deneen McCarraher’s Dance Studio in Downingtown, Pennsylvania until her matriculation into West Chester University in 1998.  Sonya graduated from WCU with a degree in Liberal Arts, with a minor in dance, and later a Masters Degree in Public Health and Dance Performance. While there, she captained the University Dance Team for three years and served as Treasurer for Dance Production Workshop, the University’s dance company. Post graduation, Sonya worked on many dance projects, including choreographing for Philadelphia’s Sonoco Welcome America 4th of July Parade, instructing master classes at WCU and Cabrini College, and choreographing for WCU’s dance team  Sonya also served as Coatesville Area High School’s musical choreographer from 2005-2010.  Her countless performances span from New York City to Hong Kong, to Africa.  She was proud to have been a five-year veteran of the Philadelphia Eagles Cheerleading Team, where she served as captain and accompanied the team to the 2005 Super Bowl in Jacksonville, Florida.  Sonya had a heart for dance education and instructed students from age three to adult for the past ten years.

Sonya’s great legacy will forever be cherished by her parents: Barry and Joyce Crutchfield of Coatesville; her brother, David R. Crutchfield (Aleli) of San Carlos, California; her sister, C. Nicole Davis (Darnell) of Brookhaven, Georgia; Grandmother, Christine M. Crutchfield, Downingtown, Pennsylvania; Uncle, Rev. Steven Crutchfield (Johnette) Downingtown, Pennsylvania; Aunt, Diane White (James) Norristown, Pennsylvania; God parents, Rev. Walter H. Johnson (Sylvia) Jacksonville, Florida; three special little nieces and a nephew who always put a smile on her face: Jordyn Davis, Bryce Davis, Isla Crutchfield; God children, Lamar Michael Jones and Lennox Rivers McClain-Robertson and a host of cousins and many friends including a sister related by love, Rachelle Hunt Jones.

Everyday in Sonya’s life was a new day to dance. She presented Christ to all she met. She encouraged the youth to live up to their potential.  Take advantage of scholarships and grants. Live life!
