Monroe Thompson Obituary

Monroe Lee Thompson, 88, of Philadelphia, PA, passed away Saturday, December 8, 2018 at Aristacare at Meadow Springs, Plymouth Meeting, PA.

Born in Orange County, Virginia he was the son of the late Elizabeth Fink and Treaty Thompson. In addition to his mother, he was raised by his late grandmother Irene Gentry.

Monroe received his early education from the Virginia public schools and graduated from George Washington Carver High School in Culpepper Virginia. He served in the US Army and obtained the rank of Corporal. He served until he was honorably discharged in 1961.

He was the beloved husband of Marian Elsie Thompson with whom he shared 65 years of marriage. Monroe was introduced to Elsie by his niece. From this union came one son, Raymond Lee Thompson.

While raising a family in Philadelphia, PA, Monroe worked as an Auto Mechanic for many years. He knew everything there was to know about cars. He could take them apart and put them back together again.

He was a member of the local VFW.  He was a member of the Greenwood Baptist Church in Philadelphia, PA.   He enjoyed cooking, traveling, fishing and riding bikes. He liked to watch baseball and the Philadelphia Eagles. Most of all he enjoyed working on cars and spending time with his family.

In addition to his parents, Monroe was preceded in death by his beloved son, Raymond Lee Thompson in 2007; and one brother, who passed away at a very young age.

Monroe leaves his wife, Elsie Thompson and many nieces, nephews, and friends to cherish his memory.
