Laura A. Johnson Griffy, 74, of Shelton, WA, formerly of Coatesville, PA, passed away May 6, 2018, at the Capital Medical Center after a brief illness.
Laura was born in Coatesville, PA on February 1, 1944. She was the youngest of eight siblings born to the late Albert and Alice Curry Johnson.
Laura graduated from Scott Senior High school. She attended Apex Beauty and Barber Academy in Philadelphia. Laura worked at the former Atkinson Hospital in Coatesville and worked many years at Chester County Hospital as an Operating Room Sterilization Technician. She later worked at the Coatesville Area School District in Custodial Services until she retired. Laura enjoyed mentoring the young adults she got to know at the school.
Laura was a dedicated and faithful member of Saint Paul AME Church of Coatesville. She served faithfully until her health began to fail.
Laura was an independent, free-willed, speak your mind kind of women; she was also a loving and dedicated mother, sister and friend. Laura was a hard-working woman with a very huge heart that would do whatever she could for her family. She was very welcoming to family and friends in need by opening up her life and her home to them.
Laura is survived by her daughter Deborah Pawlowski (Christopher); sisters, Faye Melvin, Catherine Johnson; brothers, John Johnson and Paul Johnson; 2 grandchildren: Eric and Erica; step-grandson, Logan Buda and a godchild, Aaron Johnson.
She also leaves a special nephew, Princeton Brown, a dedicated friend Elaine Rudolph and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and a Grand Cat named Gizmo.
In addition to her parents, Laura was preceded in death by a son, Eric John Griffy; two brothers, Arthur Curry, Donald Johnson; and a sister, Cora Johnson Norman.
Memorial Services will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, August 4, 2018, at St Paul AME Church, 703 Merchant Street, Coatesville, PA. A family visitation will be held from 10 AM – 11 AM.
Inurnment will be in New Evergreen Cemetery in Coatesville, PA.
