Kenneth Woodall Obituary

Staff Sergeant Kenneth W. Woodall, 70, of Coatesville, PA passed away Thursday, October 24, 2019 at Coatesville VA Medical Center.

Born in Magnolia, Delaware, Kenny was the son of the late Holland P. Woodall, Sr. and Doris E. Clark Woodall. He was the husband of Karen I. Hammond Woodall with whom he shared 29 years of marriage.

Kenny, as he was known by his many friends and family, served proudly for nine years in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam Conflict. During his military career he was awarded the Purple Heart Medal twice and a Bronze Star for his heroic, valiant and meritorious service in a combat zone.

After he returned home, Kenny gave his life to Christ and joined Lighthouse Christian Center in Delaware and was baptized on May 4, 1986. Kenny later came to Coatesville where he was employed at the Coatesville VA Medical Center and met and married Karen Hammond. He worked at the VA Medical Center for 25 years in Housekeeping until he retired.

Kenny was a lifetime member of the Military Purple Heart Association Post 1777 of Valley Forge/Chester County, PA and a member of the Disabled American Veterans Association #84 of Chester County, PA.

He enjoyed watching sports, especially the Philadelphia teams: football, basketball, and baseball. He also enjoyed watching the Williams girls play tennis. Most of all, Kenny enjoyed drinking coffee at Wawa which was one of his favorite spots.  You could find him there daily talking with his many friends for hours with a cup of coffee in his hand. Anyone who has a story to tell about Kenny always relates it back to coffee and Wawa.

In the summer months you could find Kenny manicuring his lawn, and in the winter outside cleaning off the cars, and making sure he could get out the neighborhood to get to Wawa. Hanging out with his Wawa wall group which he enjoyed.

Kenny is survived by his wife, Karen I. Hammond Woodall of Coatesville; two daughters, Demetria "Nikki" Woodall Blair (Gary) of Lexington, Kentucky, Kenya Woodall of Coatesville, PA; a son, David Eric Woodall of Akron, Ohio; two  step-daughters, Angela B. Hammond of Pomeroy, PA, Johndah E. Williams (Joseph) of Coatesville, PA; one Aunt Agnes (Uncle Chester) Lamb of Delaware; brothers, Donald Woodall, New York, Larry Woodall (Earl Lou) of Delaware, Tony Woodall of Texas; sisters, Carol Woodall of Alexandria, Virginia and Phyllis Woodall (Allen) Brown of Delaware, 10 grandchildren, 1 great granddaughter, two close friends Steven Robinson and Joseph Koon and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Holland P. Woodall, Sr., James Woodall, and Reginald Woodall.

Kenny was a leader and highly respected by many. He willingly provided information, guidance and direction to those who came seeking his help. He will be greatly missed. Kenny left a legacy of helping others; his purpose in being here. (Semper Fi) Always Faithful.
