Juan F. Rodriguez, Sr.

Juan F. Rodriguez, Sr. ,“Ponch”, 79, of Coatesville passed away July 16, 2017 at home. Born in Canovanas, Puerto Rico he was the son of the late Antonio Rodriguez and Asuncion Sanchez-Rodriguez.  Juan’s parents died at an early age and he was raised by his sister. He met and married the late Donna Mae (Taylor) Rodriguez with whom he shared forty-seven years of marriage.

For over twenty years, Juan worked in Landscaping at Hershey’s Mills in West Chester where he had become a Foreman until his health failed. 

He loved watching westerns movies. He loved to watch baseball and play it also.  Although he had limited education, he taught himself the English language.  Juan loved being with his grandchildren who called him Pop-Pop. After each one would outgrow their baby shoes he would put them in a special place and collect them.

Gardening and cooking,was something that he loved to do, he also found time to be, what one would call, a jack of all trades who did carpentry work, he also worked on cars, and he could fix anything. Juan’s favorite saying was, “If you want something done, do it yourself.”  He was a good father, he was stern but he was loving and he was caring.

His children said that they would often hear their father praying in Spanish, even though they were not able to understand what he was saying.

Juan leaves to cherish his life his daughters, Novella Rodriguez, Stefanie Rodriguez, and Jennifer Rodriguez; one son, John F. Rodriguez, Jr. and his wife Jennifer all of Coatesville,  13 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Jose Rodriguez; his sisters, Maria Rodriguez, twin sisters Pura Rodriguez and Petra Rodriguez.

A viewing will be held from 1pm -3pm on Saturday July 22, 2017 at Wright Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc., 725 Merchant Street, Coatesville, Pa.  19320.
