Florence M. Davenport, 81, of Coatesville, PA, passed away Friday, May 11, 2018, at her residence.
Born in Morstein, West Chester, PA on April 24, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Edna Nash Washington.
She is remembered by her family as a was nurturing and caring mother and a great provider for her family. She had a love for all children and took care of many as a foster care mother and babysitter. In her early years, she worked at the Royer Graves School for the Blind in Paoli, PA.
Florence was a fantastic cook and the family loved her "down home" cooking, especially back in the day when she would really cook some home meals. The children never went hungry. Some of her favorite things to cook were fried chicken and rice pudding. And every now and then she loved eating a good ham and cheese hoagie.
She was crafty, as she would knit, make curtains, interior decorate, and make clothes for the family. Occasionally, the family says, she would even chop up wood for the fireplace to provide heat.
She enjoyed fishing and going to yard sales. Most of all, she loved the Lord.
Florence is survived by a son, Joseph Owens (Cynthia) of Coatesville; two daughters, Angel Washington and Donna Washington, both of Coatesville, 8 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, many other relatives and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10 AM Saturday, May 19, 2018 at Greater Deliverance Church International, Inc., 800 South First Avenue, Coatesville, PA. Visitation with the family will be held beginning at 9 AM. Please note: There will not be a public viewing.
