Delores McGibboney, 86, of Coatesville, PA, passed away Sunday, October 6, 2019 at her home. Born February 18, 1933, Delores was a lifelong resident of Coatesville. She was the daughter of the late Esther Brandon Kanalas, and was the former spouse of the late George Ruffin McGibboney. Delores was the mother of 6 children.
Delores was educated in the Coatesville Area School District attending both the Historic James Adams school and S. Horace Scott Senior High School.
She lived in the Carver Court area of Coatesville for many years. She was always seen sitting in her kitchen window. A great cook, she was known for her fried chicken, potato salad, bean pies, and pineapple cheese pies.
She was a homemaker, raising not only her children but many others in the family. The friends of her children knew that they would always have a place to lay their heads as she often said, “I can’t put anybody out.” She liked having people around.
She enjoyed trips to the casino as she called it “getting her rest”, playing games on her IPAD, Pokeno with her grandchildren and then eventually her great grandchildren and you better “have your pennies together”. She also enjoyed watching all the judge shows, Steve Wilkos and Maury. She was an avid Phillies fan staying up many late nights to cheer them on.
Delores would speak her mind without hesitation. She had many funny sayings. Sometimes she would swear under her breath, and then say it was Spanish. Delores was the cherished matriarch of the McGibboney family. In all that she did, she showed love for her family.
She leaves three sons: George A. McGibboney of Dallas, Texas, Gerald L. McGibboney and William Twyman, whom she raised, both of Coatesville; two daughters, Linda M. McGibboney of Coatesville, Brenda L. McGibboney of Lancaster; brother, James Brandon (Ida) of Florida; sister, Cynthia Daniels (Thomas) of Coatesville, Georgiana Kydd of Canton, GA; daughter-in-law, Rosemary McGibboney; brother-in-law Robert Bogle of Yeadon; 13 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; long-time friend and neighbor Nathaniel Austin; friends: Henry E. Lewis, Kathy Brickus, Michael Brown, Barbara Sanor and the entire Carver Court Family, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by one son, Gene L. McGibboney; sisters: Marvel Longcrier, Gladys Brandon, Dorothy Smith, Agnes Winkey, and Marie Bogle; grandchildren, Shaheena “Sheena” McGibboney and Sharon Craig; great grandson, Brandon L. Franklin and granddaughter-in-law, Monica McGibboney.
Services will be held at 10 AM Saturday October 12, 2019 at Second Baptist Worship Center, 857 Lumber Street, Coatesville, PA, with a viewing beginning at 8 AM.
Interment will be held in New Evergreen Cemetery in Coatesville, PA.
Flowers can be sent to the church on the day of the service. The theme flower colors are blue and white. Condolences for the family can be shared here on the guestbook page tab.
