David J. Bookman

David J. Bookman, 87, of Coatesville, PA, passed away on Tuesday, July 10, 2018.

Born in Little Mountain, S.C. he was the son of the late Emmanuel and Almease Summers Bookman.

A US Army veteran, he served two years until he was honorably discharged.

David worked at Lukens Steel Company in Coatesville for many years.   

David enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, watching sports and old sitcoms on television. He also enjoyed going fishing and working on cars.

David is survived by one son, Andre Shelton, Sr. and his son’s wife Charnette of Coatesville, PA; several children whom he raised: Jeanette Shockley, Lisa Shelton Lee, Dawn Shelton, Stanley Shelton, Melissa Shelton, Marcia Shelton, all of Coatesville, PA;  and a granddaughter whom he raised, Alisa Shelton.

He also leaves beloved members of the Bowman family, and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

David was preceded in death by Jeanine Shelton, whom he raised; two sisters, Alice B. Bookman, Bessie Mae Cash (Roosevelt); and a brother, William Bookman.

Services will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, July 17, 2018, at Bell Chapel, 132 Modena Rd, Coatesville, PA.  A one-hour viewing will be held beginning at 10 AM.

Interment with full military honors will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, July 18, 2018, at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville, PA.

Flowers can be sent to the church on the day of the service. The theme color is blue and white.
