Carolyn Amanda Wilson Thornton, 73, of Coatesville, PA, formerly of West Chester, PA, passed away Tuesday, August 29, 2017, at the Penn Presbyterian Medical Center in Philadelphia, PA. Born on Monday, May 1, 1944 in West Chester, PA, she was the daughter of the late Wilson Jackson and Augustine Wilson.

She attended Henderson High School and received her License Practical Nursing (LPN) certification from Brandywine Nursing School. She worked as a nurse for many years at Handi-Crafters, Presbyterian Children’s Village, and Devereaux with mentally challenged adults and children.

Carolyn was a woman of Faith and God and attended many churches. She always had a beautiful home and was an avid, voracious reader. She was an excellent cook and everyone enjoyed her cooking. She loved to have a good time and entertain for family and friends. She enjoyed listening to gospel and R&B music. Carolyn was known as being a very stylish, classy and jazzy dresser. She was an excellent conversationalist and a confidant to many friends and relatives. When her family, friends and especially the grandchildren would visit she always light up with a big bright smile and laughter.

Carolyn especially enjoyed holidays with Christmas being one of her favorites, as she would always have a houseful of friends and family that she would shower with numerous gifts. Most of all she was a loving Mother and friend. She will be missed by all.

She is survived by three sons, David Todd Thornton (Hazel) of Downingtown, PA, Michael Trent Thornton of Coatesville, Ronald Scott Thornton (Ruth) of Schwenksville, PA; one brother, Ronald Wilson (Beatrice) of Lowell, MA; one uncle, Kenneth Wilson, West Chester, PA; 9 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Gilda Ann Crabb.

A Memorial Service will be held in her honor 11 AM Saturday, September 9th, 2017 at Bethel AME Church, 334 E. Miner St., West Chester, PA 19382. Visitation with the family begins at 10 a.m. Interment will be held privately.
