Carol Ann Marcus, born in Philadelphia, PA, on May 12, 1945, was the daughter of the late James Robinson, Sr. and Viola (Sapp) Robinson. Carol was the third child and second daughter of four children. She was always selfless, often looking out for her siblings during her earlier years as well as in her adult life.
Carol accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior in her teenage years. She was a 1963 graduate of BOK Vocational High School in Philadelphia. Shortly after, Carol met and married the late David H. Marcus, Sr. on September 24, 1966. From this union, David H. Marcus, Jr. affectionately known as "Little David" was born.
Carol held administration positions with Provident Mutual Insurance Company and Isadore Martin Realty Company before retiring from the Philadelphia Federation of Teachers (PFT) in 1999. She began her 29 years of service at PFT first as a secretary and then eventually promoted to a benefit analyst supervisor. Carol was no-nonsense treating all those she came in contact with with dignity and respect. She was always willing to help coworkers, friends, and family in their times of need. Carol was a listening ear giving advice from a Biblical perspective and setting aside prayer time for those she was helping.
Throughout her adulthood, Carol found great joy in knitting, gardening, playing the piano, and bowling. She and her late husband would often take trips traveling throughout the country as well as internationally. In her early twenties, she would go to concerts at Uptown in North Philadelphia and dance all night. Carol loved listening to music; her favorite singer was the great Smoky Robinson. She was known for her great sense of style always dressed from head to toe. Carol was a pillar of strength and beauty.
Being with her family brought Carol immense joy and happiness, especially when her first grandchild, Kelsey, came along. Many years later, Jaida and Justin were born. Carol and her husband spent time with their grandchildren through a variety of activities like going to the mall, attending musicals and plays, picking them up from school, cooking out on the grill, and opening gifts on Christmas Day. The grandkids lovingly called her "Mom-Mom". Besides being a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Carol was an all-around fantastic cook, but good ole fried chicken, tasty baked macaroni & cheese, and slammin' collard-greens, were her signature dishes.
Carol really loved the Lord and serving Him. She was a ministry leader of The Stretcher Bearer Ministry at Christ Baptist Church where she collected and mailed notes of encouragement from church members to the sick and shut-in. Also as a member of Christ Baptist Church, Carol was one of the adult leaders for Pioneer Clubs where she mentored youth according to the Bible's teachings. She found great joy in this work during her Christian journey. Before her death, Carol was an active member at Bible Way Freewill Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband, David, Sr, Carol was preceded in death by her sister, Jean Robinson, and brother, Ralph Robinson.
Carol has left many precious and treasured memories to her loving son, David H. Marcus, Jr, (wife Jonette) of Glenmoore PA; 3 grandchildren, Kelsey Lilly (husband Jason) of Middletown, DE, Jaida Marcus, and Justin Marcus of Glenmoore; one brother James Robinson, Jr.(wife Elizabeth) of Florida; one brother-in-law, Woodie Marcus, Sr. (wife Louise) of Philadelphia; 2 great-grandchildren, Karter Marcus, and Jason Lilly Jr of Middletown, DE. and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
