Lamar Lumpkin, Jr., 84, of Coatesville, passed away Sunday February 24, 2017 at St. Francis Hospital in Delaware.

Born in Philadelphia, Pa., to his father and mother the late Lamar Lumpkin, Sr., Linda Hammonds and his step-father Ryland Garner. Lamar was affectionately known as “Lump” by his friends and family.

Lamar received his early education in the Philadelphia School System. A United States Army Veteran, he served two years during the Korean War until he was honorably discharged. He worked in the Electric Furnace at Lukens Steel for many years until he retired.

He had a passion for boxing. He not only trained others, but produced championship boxers, like Calvin Grove. His passion to train boxers has always been strong. He lived a disciplined life. He was a man of deep conviction who was loved by his family.

Lamar’s precious memories will be shared by Jeanette and his children, nine boys and eight girls; two sisters, Geraldine Brown and Loretta Murray; one brother-in-law, Leonard Murray; two daughter-in-laws, Vernadette William-Lumpkin and Kelly Lumpkin; 29 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren, as well as a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by two wives; Louise Dunn and Robin Mitchell; one sister, Clarasteene Williams; two brothers, Jasper and Ronald Lumpkin; two sons, Greg Lumpkin, and Lamar Lumpkin III. 

There will be a viewing beginning at 11 AM on Tuesday February 28, 2017 at Wright Funeral & Cremation Services Inc. ,725 Merchant Street, Coatesville, Pa.   A Janaazah Prayer will be held at the Coatesville Mosque at 1 PM followed by a tradition Muslim burial at Fairview Cemetery, 785 Oak Street, Coatesville, Pa.
